3 October in the history of Mykolaiv linked the city’s symbols, shipbuilding, aviation, the memory of a fallen defender and events from two wartime eras. And for the Korabelnyi District this date also recalls the pandemic and the scale of the consequences of Russian aggression for adults and children.
3 October 1803: the first coat of arms of Mykolaiv was approved
The first coat of arms of Mykolaiv was approved by Emperor Alexander I on 3 October 1803. It depicted a golden cross above a silver censer, a bishop’s mitre and staff. The date in the documents of the Russian Empire is given according to the Julian calendar: 3 October 1803 old style corresponds to 15 October 1803 in the modern Gregorian calendar.
3 October 1932: the M-1 submarine was laid down in Mykolaiv
At the Mykolaiv A. Marti Plant No.198 the small submarine M-1 of Series VI, type “Malyutka”, with factory number 237 was laid down. It was launched on 9 April 1933, then moved to Vladivostok for completion, and on 26 April 1934 the submarine entered service.
3 October 2014: an Alley of Memory for Maksym Oleksandrovych Aldoshyn was opened in Mykolaiv
Near the Mykolaiv Polytechnic College at Nikolska Street, 11, an Alley of Glory was opened and a memorial plaque was installed for the college graduate Maksym Oleksandrovych Aldoshyn. The serviceman died of severe wounds on 7 August 2014 and was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage”, 3rd class. In his memory, a guelder-rose (kalyna) and an oak alley were planted near the college.
3 October 2014: the “NARP” plant celebrated 75 years
The Mykolaiv Aircraft Repair Plant “NARP” celebrated its 75th anniversary. The plant hosted an exhibition of aviation equipment where guests could board aircraft and visit cockpits. The anniversary brought together the plant’s employees and representatives of city and regional authorities.
3 October 2020: almost the entire School No.33 in Korabelnyi was sent into self-isolation
The COVID-19 pandemic in the autumn of 2020 seriously affected educational institutions in the Korabelnyi District of Mykolaiv. After the coronavirus was confirmed in a teacher at School No.33 who taught in grades 5–11, almost the entire institution, except for the younger classes, was sent into self-isolation. At that time, 13 classes in 4 schools and 1 kindergarten group in the district were on self-isolation.
3 October 2023: 16 “Shahed” were destroyed over Mykolaiv region
On the night of 3 October 2023, air defense forces destroyed 16 strike UAVs of the “Shahed-136/131” type over the Mykolaiv region. That same morning at 04:02 Russian forces shelled with artillery the waters of the Kutsurub community. According to official information, there were no casualties.
3 October 2025: 1,175 applications for damaged housing and 2,991 affected children in Korabelnyi
As of 3 October 2025, residents of the Korabelnyi District of Mykolaiv have submitted 1,175 applications for compensation for housing damaged as a result of Russian aggression: 1,015 appeals have been processed concerning 459 houses and 556 apartments. Another telling figure for this date: the official status of a child affected by hostilities and armed conflicts in the district has already been granted to 2,991 children.

On 3 October 1990 the postwar division of Germany ended: the German Democratic Republic joined the Federal Republic of Germany. Since then, 3 October has been celebrated in the country as German Unity Day, a national holiday.
