In “Liski” Park in Mykolaiv, an open bookcase for bookcrossing has been installed. Anyone can take a book, leave their own, or swap it for another. The initiative was carried out by three women from Mykolaiv who love reading and decided to share this passion with city residents.
The bookcase contains books in Ukrainian and English, suitable for both children and adults. You can now pick a book to read outdoors during an ordinary walk in the park.
The following helped implement the idea:
- The public organization “Tenth of April” and UNICEF — supported the initiative.
- Olena Dorgalis, a maintenance specialist of the Zavodskyi District for parks and squares at the municipal enterprise KP “Mykolaiv Parks”, — helped choose the location and bring the idea to life.
They chose “Liski” Park because it is a popular recreation spot for Mykolaiv residents of all ages. The bookcase complements ordinary walks by offering the chance to find a book and read it outdoors.
The project’s goal is to encourage people to read and to increase the number of accessible cultural spaces in Mykolaiv. Such places are meant to promote communication and bring residents together.
