An acquaintance made through a messaging app ended in the murder of a 16-year-old boy in Odesa

A few days ago a mother found the body of her 16-year-old son with bodily injuries in one of the private houses in the Peresyp district of Odesa. A 19-year-old man is suspected in the teenager’s murder, the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region reported.

The day before, the boy met the man in a messaging app and suggested meeting at the man’s home. The new acquaintance arrived at the teenager late in the evening.

According to the investigation, during the meeting the guest inflicted numerous stab wounds to the boy’s neck. After the murder he took the deceased’s mobile phone and laptop.

The suspect’s whereabouts were established in less than a day, after which he was detained. The police also found the teenager’s stolen property and an item they consider a probable weapon of the crime.

The detainee was notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional murder. For this crime he faces up to 15 years in prison. The question of a preventive measure is still being decided.

Investigators are establishing the motive for the murder and other circumstances of the incident. A number of examinations have been ordered in the case, including a forensic medical examination.
