More than 100 train services delayed after shelling: railway disruptions will continue for at least another day

Up to 15 hours of waiting: "Ukrzaliznytsia" warned of major delays throughout the country

Passenger trains of “Ukrzaliznytsia” 28 August 2026 continue to operate with significant delays after prolonged air raid alerts and Russian shelling. No long-distance train has been canceled, however on some routes passengers will have to transfer to another set of cars or other transport. The consequences of the attacks may affect the timetable for at least another day.

The delay against the schedule is gradually decreasing, but the situation remains difficult. As of 10:20 28 August, more than 100 services were running late, about 30 of them were delayed by more than 5 hours, and the longest delay reached about 15 hours.

The problems directly affected passengers traveling to or departing from Mykolaiv. According to the latest data from the official service of “Ukrzaliznytsia”, updated on 28 August at 11:33, train No.121/122 Kyiv — Mykolaiv-Pasazhyrskyi was running 6 hours 42 minutes behind schedule. The estimated arrival time in Mykolaiv was indicated as 12:50.

Train No.109/110 Mykolaiv — Lviv at that time was delayed by 4 hours 23 minutes. “Ukrzaliznytsia” emphasizes that the estimated arrival and departure times may change depending on the security situation.

Ukrzaliznytsia explained that on certain routes trains will not travel the entire distance with a single set of cars. On the last part of the route passengers may be transferred to another train or another means of transport may be arranged. Railway staff explained why additional transfers are being introduced.

Significant delays are expected for trains departing from Przemyśl, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Lviv. The company asks passengers to be understanding of possible transfers and route changes.

The easiest way to find out the current situation is the official “Ukrzaliznytsia” portal uz-vezemo. There, in real time, they show the train number, route, length of delay and the approximate arrival time.

Passengers are also advised to follow push notifications in the “Ukrzaliznytsia” app, announcements at stations and information from train crews. This is especially important now, as estimated times can change even within a few hours. Until the morning of 29 August 2026, passengers can use paid waiting rooms at stations free of charge.

There you can wait for your service, charge your phone, warm up and have a cup of tea. At the same time, during an air raid alert the lounges do not operate — passengers must move to shelters. Railway employees will help people orient themselves regarding the further movement of their train.

For passengers on services that are delayed by 5 hours or more, “Ukrzaliznytsia”, together with World Central Kitchen, organizes “Rail Snacks”. In this way people who, because of the consequences of Russian attacks, are forced to spend significantly more time on the road will be provided with food.

Ukrzaliznytsia operates a service called “Claim-based ticket refunds”. A claim can be submitted remotely.

To do this you need to provide your personal details, ticket information, an IBAN account for refunds, describe the reason and, if necessary, attach supporting documents. For online submission you need “Diia.Signature”. A claim can also be filed at the station ticket office.
