In Mykolaiv, a man took a bag containing 4,800 hryvnias from an unlocked car
He threw away the bag, and managed to spend part of the money
4 thousand 800 UAH were taken by the offender along with a bag that the 22-year-old victim had left in an unlocked car. A woman who tried to stop the suspect witnessed the crime. Thanks to the witness’s prompt report, law enforcement quickly located and detained the offender in accordance with procedural rules. The suspect faces up to ten years of imprisonment for the committed offense.
The report of the incident was received on the emergency line 102 on the afternoon of 23 August. The man told officers that near a store an unknown person had seized his bag with money, which he had left in an unlocked car.
During initial investigative and operational-search measures, law enforcement established that a resident of the building near which the car was parked noticed the offender during the commission of the crime. When the woman began to shout, the suspect fled.
After receiving the suspect’s description, detectives of the Mykolaiv District Police Department, with the support of analysts from the Criminal Analysis Department of the regional police headquarters, identified the person and his location. He turned out to be a 29-year-old local resident who had previously come to the attention of law enforcement.
Police detained the man in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and seized part of the taken cash. It turned out that he had thrown the bag into a garbage bin and taken the money, spending some of it.
Investigators, under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office, notified the detainee of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, “Robbery committed under martial law.” He faces up to ten years of imprisonment.
Law enforcement also established that the day before the arrest the detainee had stolen goods from a store.
Currently, authorities are checking the suspect’s involvement in other crimes in the regional center.
The court will soon determine a preventive measure for the suspect.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
