Three children and a man killed in a Russian strike: August 22 declared a Day of Mourning in the Mykolaiv region
Shahed struck a shop, a post office and a pharmacy
On Saturday, 22 August 2026, a Day of Mourning is declared in the territory of Mykolaiv Oblast for the people killed by the Russian attack on the village of Tokarivka in the Veselynivka community. The tragedy occurred on the evening of 21 August: a Russian Shahed strike drone hit the building that housed a shop, a branch of “Nova Poshta” and a pharmacy.
As a result of the attack, 4 people were killed. Among the victims were two 11-year-old boys, a 13-year-old boy and a 30-year-old man, who died of his wounds on the way to the hospital. Another 36-year-old woman was wounded and hospitalized. A fire broke out in the building after the strike. Law enforcement has opened an investigation into violations of the laws and customs of war that caused the deaths.
Acting head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Heorhiy Reshetilov, announcing the Day of Mourning, called to lower the state flags as a sign of mourning and to refrain from holding entertainment events.
“As a sign of mourning for the deceased, I ask that tomorrow, 22 August, the State Flags of Ukraine be lowered and that the holding of entertainment events in the region be limited.”
