An acute hemodialysis machine has been installed at the hospital in Mykolaiv’s Korabelnyi District
Equipment operates at the bedside of the most critically ill patients
In Mykolaiv, a modern device for acute hemodialysis, the MultiFiltratePRO manufactured by Fresenius Medical Care, has been installed in the anesthesiology and intensive care unit of City Hospital No. 5. This next-generation blood purification system is used as an artificial kidney to assist the most critically ill patients.
The new equipment is used in situations when the patient’s own kidneys suddenly stop functioning due to a severe infection (including sepsis), a complex operation, or trauma. In such cases, the device fully takes over their function.
The system is also intended to correct severe metabolic disorders. It quickly and precisely restores the chemical and acid-base balance of the blood, which is critical for stabilizing the patient’s condition.
Another area of the device’s application is helping patients with chronic heart failure and severe edema. The equipment gently removes excess fluid from the body without placing additional strain on the heart when drug therapy no longer produces the desired effect.
Physicians have received a single continuous-operation device that can be used directly at the patient’s bedside. It combines three functions at once:
- urgent dialysis;
- plasma purification;
- detoxification.
The procedure is carried out smoothly, without pressure fluctuations. Thanks to this, the exhausted body more easily weathers the critical condition and recovers more quickly.
This upgrade of the intensive care unit became possible with the support of international partners — the UNOPS PROGRAMMA UNIT project and the company “Fresenius Medical Care Ukraine”.
The unit’s team has already undergone intensive practical training and is fully ready to operate the new equipment.
