Explosive in a McDonald's burger for a checkpoint: a girl detained in the Chernihiv region
The incident occurred on the road out of Chernihiv heading toward Kyiv; the decision on issuing a notice of suspicion is currently pending
In Chernihiv Oblast, law enforcement officers detained a girl suspected of handing a McDonald’s burger to soldiers at a checkpoint with a homemade explosive device hidden inside.
The incident was reported by the Chernihiv Oblast police, stating that the detention was carried out by joint teams of the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine, and that investigative actions are ongoing while the question of formally charging the detainee is being considered.
The local outlet CHЕline, citing sources among military personnel, reported that the event occurred on the exit from Chernihiv toward Kyiv, when the girl drove up to a checkpoint and, allegedly as a gesture of gratitude, handed the defenders several bags of food from McDonald’s.
According to the outlet’s interlocutors, the soldiers followed safety procedures: the packages were taken away from the crowd and from the checkpoint itself, after which a homemade explosive device was found in one of the burgers.
The Security Service also said that the issue of formally notifying the detainee of suspicion is currently under review; additional details will be released after the completion of the initial procedural actions.
