Three catfish and eight crucian carp worth 32,000: poacher with a net exposed on the Southern Bug
Illegal fishing ended in a meeting with environmentalists and the police
On the river Southern Bug near the village of Onyskove of the Kryvoozerska territorial community, inspectors uncovered a man who was illegally fishing from a boat using a mesina net. The damage caused to aquatic biological resources was estimated at 32,810 hryvnias.
This was 20 July 2026 reported by the press service of the State Environmental Inspection of the South-Western District.
The violation was discovered during a joint environmental protection raid by state inspectors of Environmental Control Point No. 2 together with officers of Police Unit No. 3 of the Pervomaisk District Police Department of the Main Department of the National Police in Mykolaiv region.
According to the eco-inspection, the man was in a boat and used a prohibited fishing gear — a mesina net. In his catch inspectors found three catfish, eight silver crucian carps, one asp and one perch. In total he illegally caught 13 fish.
The net and the illegally obtained aquatic biological resources were seized by inspectors in accordance with the procedure established by law.
An administrative protocol was drawn up against the violator under Part 4 of Article 85 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences, which concerns gross violations of fishing rules. The case materials are to be sent to the court, which will decide on the man’s liability.
Specialists of the State Environmental Inspection of the South-Western District calculated the damage caused by the illegal catch of fish. The total amount of damages amounted to 32,810 hryvnias.
