New PAC-3s already on the way: Ukraine has reached an agreement with the U.S. on a Patriot package
Additional missiles and domestic production: how Ukraine's air defense will be strengthened
Ukraine is set to receive from the United States a new package of military aid in the coming days. Separate agreements were also reached with European partners on additional interceptor missiles PAC-3 for Patriot systems. President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters this after the NATO summit, which took place July 7-8, 2026 in Ankara.
“I believe this was a productive summit for Ukraine. In the coming days we will receive a package from the United States of America, and there were also separate agreements between me and the Europeans. There are no dates yet, but there will be additional PAC-3“, – said Zelensky.
According to the president, one package of missiles is not enough to cover the needs of Ukraine’s air defence, so negotiations with partners on additional deliveries continue. Zelensky also said that the issue of Patriot production in Ukraine has been politically agreed with U.S. President Donald Trump. The next stage should be work by government officials and technical teams on licences, technologies and the practical launch of production.
During a meeting with Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit on July 8 Trump publicly stated his readiness to grant Ukraine the relevant license.
“We will show them how to do it. In fact it is very complicated, but you will quickly figure out this complexity… We will give you a licence to produce the Patriot”, – said the U.S. president.
At the same time, a political agreement does not yet mean an immediate start of production. Ukraine and the United States need to agree on technical conditions, access to technologies, supply of components, location of facilities and the project timeline.
