In Mykolaiv, four defense officials will be tried over 496 tonnes of fuel worth 47 million hryvnias
According to the investigation, in 2022–2025 fuel was written off for combat training purposes and sold to third parties
In Mykolaiv, an indictment has been referred to court against four officials of the defense sector, who are accused of embezzling fuel intended for the army worth more than 47 million UAH; this was reported by the Mykolaiv Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Southern Region.
Among the persons involved in the case are two former heads of units of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, the head of the fuel and lubricants service of one military unit, and the manager of a refueling point.
According to the investigation, in 2022–2025 the accused established a mechanism for illegally obtaining fuel: fabricated data about the conduct of combat training events were entered into official documents, which served as the basis for allocating additional quantities of resources. Formally the fuel was recorded as received, but in reality it was sold to third parties.
The investigation established that the scheme participants appropriated more than 132 tonnes of gasoline and 364 tonnes of diesel fuel. The total value of the damage caused exceeds 47 million UAH.
To conceal the illegal actions, fictitious invoices and reports on the movement of military property were drawn up, and the profit obtained from sales was distributed among the participants.
The court imposed preventive measures in the form of detention with the alternative of bail ranging from 266 thousand to 832 thousand UAH. One of the suspects was released after posting bail.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations in Mykolaiv with operational support from the SBU.
