On the morning of 1 July 2026 Russian occupiers attacked a passenger minibus with a drone in the Central district of Kherson. 2 women were killed, and another 9 people were injured, reports the Kherson region police.

The strike occurred at around 07:00, when many people were traveling by public transport. The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, said that the operator of the Russian drone saw a civilian minibus and deliberately directed the drone at the part of the cabin where passengers were seated.

One of the deceased was 18-year-old Svitlana. That morning she was traveling with her mother to complete documents needed for admission to a higher education institution. The girl died in front of her mother, who also sustained a cut to her hand and other injuries.

The deceased woman’s mother said she had chosen the morning time because she believed it to be safer.

“It was already time to register for admission — to take photos, get the electronic key. I thought the morning would be safer. We would go, do everything and she would return home. But this turned into her death for us.”

The other woman who was killed was sitting behind Svitlana and her mother with her own daughter.

Another 9 people sustained blast injuries and multiple shrapnel wounds. Among the injured are 2 medical workers.

“Currently six of the wounded are in hospital: a 36-year-old man and five women aged 53, 52, 55, 53 and 57. Among them is a nurse from one of the healthcare facilities. Preliminary information indicates the victims sustained blast injuries. Doctors are conducting examinations and providing all necessary care,” Oleksandr Prokudin reported.

Six people were hospitalized. One of the wounded women is in critical condition. Doctors operated on her, stabilized her condition and transferred her to the intensive care unit.
