In Mykolaiv a struggle continues over a small park at the intersection of Bohoyavlenskyi Avenue and Kober Street, where about 200 oaks grow. A gas station complex was planned for this site, which could have put the trees at risk of being cut down.

As reported by a deputy of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, Alla Ryazhskikh, the specialized environmental prosecutor’s office entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations (ЄРДР) regarding a possible violation of procedure during the environmental impact assessment related to the gas station construction project. The entry in the ЄРДР was made on April 23, 2026 under number 42026150000000043.

The case concerns the activities of LLC “Svit Zdorovya”, which received a positive environmental impact assessment conclusion from the Ministry of Economy for the construction of a gas station, autogas refueling point and a service shop for drivers and passengers. According to regional council representatives, it is systematic work within the legal framework, support from the specialized parliamentary commission, the State Ecological Inspection of the South-Western District, the media and city residents that can help preserve Mykolaiv’s recreational area Mykolaiv.

Earlier it was reported that preparatory work had begun at the intersection for the construction of an “ATB” supermarket, an “OKKO” gas station and an auto shop. The plot between residential buildings and the territory of the state enterprise NVCG “Zorya”-“Mashproekt” was previously considered a green zone. The situation provoked wide resonance after information about the possible removal of 182 trees in the oak grove. Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych commented on the scandal, and the chief architect of Mykolaiv said he was “very surprised” by the situation.

Later a conflict erupted in Mykolaiv between officials and city council deputies over the transfer of land for the construction of a gas station, which could lead to the felling of about 200 oaks. The parties accused each other of hiding information, violating procedures and attempting to shift responsibility for the controversial decision.

It later became known that the issue was put up for public discussion. The Ministry of Economy gave a positive conclusion regarding the construction of the controversial gas station in Mykolaiv. At the same time, the mayor stated that the decision to remove the trees “does not and did not exist.”
