In the Mykolaiv region, a soldier shot two fellow soldiers with an AK-74
The soldiers' banquet ended in a double murder
In the Mykolaiv district, police detained a 35-year-old serviceman suspected of the intentional killing of two fellow servicemen. According to the police, the deadly shooting occurred after a verbal conflict while consuming alcoholic beverages.
A report of fatal gunshot wounds to two servicemen at their duty station was received by Police Station No. 4 of the Mykolaiv District Department on the night of May 12, 2026.
At the address, investigators from the investigative department, operatives, forensic experts from the regional police headquarters, and the territorial unit’s investigative-operational group were working. During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement established that the previous evening the 35-year-old soldier, together with other servicemen aged 58 and 38 years, were on duty. During their joint consumption of alcohol, an argument broke out. According to the investigation, during the conflict the attacker took the automatic weapon assigned to him and fired shots at his fellow servicemen. Both victims died at the scene from their gunshot wounds. From the scene, police seized the instrument of the crime – an assault rifle AK-74, as well as spent casings. The seized items were sent for expert examination.
Operatives brought the 35-year-old suspect to the police station. There, investigators detained him under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Southern Region, investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under para. 1 part 2 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional murder of two persons. The article’s sanction provides for punishment from 15 years of imprisonment to life imprisonment. A court is expected to choose a preventive measure for the suspect in the near future.
