In Mykolaiv they bid farewell to the fallen serviceman Anton Tsymbal, who served as a tanker with the 36th Separate Marine Infantry Brigade. The defender’s relatives told Suspilne reporters about this.

Anton Tsymbal joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2023. His mother, Oleksandra, said that her son was a tanker and that his brigade was later sent to the Kursk direction. According to the woman, 16 October 2024 Anton went missing after a battle.

“Their brigade was sent to the Kursk direction. And my child went missing on 16 October 2024, he did not come out of the battle. From the information we were given, their tank was hit, but he got out of the tank. And that was the hope that he would return. And we waited,” – the mother of the fallen defender said.

For one and a half years the serviceman was considered missing. Relatives and loved ones hoped until the end that he might be in captivity and would return home. The family’s friend Oleksandr admitted that while watching footage of prisoner exchanges he constantly peered at the faces of released Ukrainians, looking for Anton among them.

“I still can’t believe it’s him. I thought he was in captivity. And when I see those clips on the internet where our people arrive, I kept looking at their faces, thinking, maybe Anton is somewhere there,” says Oleksandr.

Those close to him remember Anton as a kind, empathetic and sociable person who was always ready to help others. Oleksandr says Anton was “like the sun” and wanted to warm everyone. The fallen man’s aunt, Lyudmyla, recalls that Anton was open and friendly since childhood.

“We prayed so much to see him alive. I didn’t think he would be gone, because he was his mother’s only child, she raised him by herself. I can’t convey to you how many emotions there are, he was a very good person,” said Lyudmyla.

The defender’s relative Serhii said that he and Anton grew up together. According to him, he often visited in the summer, they went swimming in the ponds together and maintained close relationships. Anton Tsymbal died on the Kursk front at the age of 37. The defender was buried at the Mishkovo-Pohorivske Cemetery.
