An intoxicated soldier opened fire after a fight near a shop

In Zaporizhzhia, police detained a man who, according to investigators, wounded two people with a pistol. The Zaporizhzhia Regional Police reported this on May 8, 2026. The incident occurred in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the city. A report of the shooting was received by the duty unit of the territorial police division at around 21:00.

According to preliminary data, the conflict began in a local shop, where the man, in a state of alcohol intoxication, behaved rudely and brazenly, which outraged other customers. After that, outside near the retail establishment, a fight broke out between him and three other participants. During the conflict, the suspect drew a pistol and fired several shots at his opponents. As a result of the shooting, two people received gunshot wounds – a 17-year-old teenager and a 33-year-old man. They were hospitalized.

The shooter was detained near the scene. Even before the patrol arrived, a criminal investigation operative, who had responded to the shooting while off duty, saw him at the scene and restrained the offender until other police arrived. Police reported that the suspect turned out to be a serviceman born in 1983. The man was detained on the basis of Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He is accused under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – hooliganism. The article’s sanction provides for up to seven years of imprisonment.
