In Mykolaiv, a homeless "flowerbed hunter" was detained: flowers taken from the square were simply being sold
Ripped up flowerbeds in the park, sold them on the street: city exposes flowerbed vandal
In recent days in Mykolaiv unknown persons damaged flowerbeds, uprooting planted flowers. In KP “Mykolaiv Parks” they reported that this happened in the Council of Europe Square and on Flotsky Boulevard.
With the help of analysts from the criminal analysis department and recordings from the system “Safe City” officers of the patrol police and Police Department No.1 of the Mykolaiv District Administration identified the offender. He turned out to be a 52-year-old man. Later he was found on one of the city streets and invited to the police station.
During a conversation with the district officer the man admitted that he had indeed uprooted flowers and coniferous plants, after which he sold them to random passersby. This detail angers residents the most: green areas, which are already difficult to maintain properly in the city, were destroyed not by accident but for quick profit.
An administrative protocol was drawn up against the offender under Art.152 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses (КУпАП) – violation of state standards, norms and rules in the sphere of settlement improvement. The materials were sent to the local self-government authority for a decision.
The story painfully underscores the long-standing problem of Mykolaiv: the city regularly complains about uprooted flowers, damaged seedlings, broken benches and other vandalism in green areas. Last year on Flotsky Boulevard unknown persons uprooted planted tulips, and in the Korabelnyi district residents reported systematic destruction of plantings in the dendropark.
