A feature film in the sports-drama genre about the Olympic fencing champion from Mykolaiv, Olga Kharlan, is planned; the project has already been submitted for state support under the ‘Tysyachovesna’ initiative, Culture Minister Tetiana Berezhna said.
According to the head of the ministry, the film’s team applied specifically to ‘Tysyachovesna’ — an initiative that provides funding for the production of Ukrainian content. Berezhna announced the submission of the documents on social media.
“Finally, we are sharing the projects that have already been submitted to Tysyachovesna. One of the first applications is a sports drama about Olga Kharlan, an Olympic champion and one of the strongest figures in modern Ukrainian sport,”
She also informed that the total budget of ‘Tysyachovesna’ is 4 billion hryvnias and is aimed at producing quality national content. Separately, the minister emphasized Kharlan’s significance as a moral role model.
“Olga Kharlan is an example of strength, dignity and principles. A true role model for Ukrainians and the whole world,”
In turn, Olga Kharlan explained that the upcoming film should convey not only her sporting journey but also inner choices, endurance and the ability to rise after the toughest moments.
“I want us to convey this together as honestly as possible, without embellishment, but with great faith that true stories can inspire. I expect that our film will become not just a retelling of facts but a living emotion, so that everyone who sees it feels the energy I have often found in critical moments, and understands that we are all capable of getting through a lot if we do not give up,”
