Fatal run-off-the-road crash in Mykolaiv region: one dead, three maimed in an overturned pickup

In the Bereznehuvate community on April 12, 2026 at approximately 16:20 a fatal road traffic accident involving a Ford Ranger occurred. The accident happened on a section of the road between the settlements of Bereznehuvate and Murakhivka in Bashtanskyi district.

According to preliminary information, the vehicle was traveling on the road but at some point left the carriageway. After that the vehicle overturned. As a result of the crash, a 41-year-old man died at the scene from his injuries. Three other men aged 23, 38 and 52, who were inside the cabin, sustained injuries of varying severity.

Following this incident, police investigators opened a criminal proceeding under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – “Violation of traffic safety rules or the operation of transport by persons driving vehicles that caused the death of the victim”. The article’s sanction provides for up to 8 years imprisonment with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to 3 years or without such deprivation. Currently law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the accident and are also determining who was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.
