Fell into a quarry and lay there for a day: 10-year-old boy rescued in Rivne region
The boy fell from approximately the height of the fifth floor
In the Rivne region, law enforcement and rescuers located a 10-year-old boy who had not returned home the previous day after going for a bike ride. The child was found alive but with multiple injuries and was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Sarny Central District Hospital.
The report of the disappearance was received on April 2, 2026 at about 10:30 p.m. from a resident of the village of Pugach. According to her, the boy had gone for a bike ride at around 6:00 p.m. and did not return. The search involved the police, rescuers, military personnel, canine units, fighters from the “Khizyak” unit, National Guardsmen, local residents and concerned citizens. The area was combed on foot and with drones; the search continued even at night.
They managed to find the child on April 3 at about 6:30 p.m. — he was spotted by a friend at a local quarry. It turned out the boy had fallen from a height of approximately the fifth floor and ended up on a hard-to-reach rock ledge. Due to his injuries he could not move on his own.
Rescuers could not use machinery because of the difficult terrain, so those involved in the operation formed a human chain to reach the child. The boy was carefully lowered down and handed over to medical personnel.
At the hospital, he was preliminarily diagnosed with fractures of the pelvis, arm, shoulder and collarbone, as well as bruises and hematomas. Despite this, his life is not in danger.
Law enforcement emphasize that the boy survived for almost a day despite hypothermia, exhaustion and serious injuries.
