Five unnamed Heroes: soldiers from the Mykolaiv region were buried at a memorial cemetery in the Kyiv region
Identification has not been completed, but the fallen Defenders have already found their final resting place
At the National Military Memorial Cemetery on Friday, 3 April 2026, an honorable burial took place for five Ukrainian servicemen from Mykolaiv Oblast who were killed defending Ukraine’s independence. This was reported on 4 April 2026 by the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.
Although the deceased remain unidentified at this time, each was accorded full military honors. The burial was organized after completion of all necessary procedures and obtaining permits; however, identification of the servicemen has not yet yielded results.
The ceremonies were held in accordance with the regulations of the Statutes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and state protocol. The fallen were escorted on their final journey to the sound of the National Anthem of Ukraine and a military salute. The event involved an honor guard from the Separate Presidential Brigade named after Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky, representatives of civil-military cooperation, the State Special Transport Service and clergy.
Present at the ceremony were Commander of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Ihor Plakhuta, head of the Mykolaiv RMA Vitaliy Kim, First Deputy Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine Viktor Baidachnyi, Member of Parliament Halyna Tretiakova, advisor to the head of the RMA Nelli Yarovenko, as well as military personnel, veterans and representatives of relevant institutions.
“Even if the identities of the deceased servicemen are not yet established, the state must give them all due honors. This is a matter of our honor, humanity, and respect for those who gave their lives for Ukraine. We have done everything possible to ensure these Heroes were buried with dignity, and work on their identification continues”, – emphasized the head of the RMA Vitaliy Kim during the ceremony on the necessity of dignified commemoration of every fallen Defender regardless of whether their name has been established.
“It is extremely important for us that every fallen Defender of Ukraine be honored with dignity. Today we say goodbye to five servicemen whose names are still unknown. At the same time, work on their identification is ongoing. If identities are established, families will be able to decide – to leave the burial site at the National Military Memorial Cemetery or to reinter their relatives. We are also working so that in the future the families of fallen Defenders from Mykolaiv region, if they wish, can bury their relatives at this memorial cemetery”, – said the advisor to the head of the RMA Nelli Yarovenko.
Work is currently underway to establish the identities of the deceased so that their relatives and comrades can learn the burial locations and duly honor the memory of the Defenders.
