A drunk car thief rammed three cars and a pole: a dangerous accident occurred in Mykolaiv region
They wouldn't let him ride — he took it himself and immediately crashed several cars
In Mykolaiv district law enforcement officers detained a 44-year-old local resident suspected of the unlawful seizure of a vehicle. The incident was reported on April 3, 2026 by the Mykolaiv region police.
According to the investigation, on April 2 a 38-year-old resident of Nova Odesa contacted the police to report the theft of his Mercedes-Benz cargo van Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle disappeared near the premises of a private company.
Law enforcement officers established that an employee of that same company was involved in the crime. The man came to work intoxicated and asked the owner for permission to use the vehicle, but was refused. Despite this, he took advantage of the fact that the vehicle was unlocked, got behind the wheel and drove off through the town.
During search operations, police found the stolen vehicle on one of the streets of the district center. The driver had already been involved in a traffic accident: having lost control, he crashed into three cars that were stopped ahead at a red light, and then into a pole.
As a result of the examination, 2.15 per mille of alcohol was detected in the driver’s body. Administrative proceedings were drawn up against him under Art. 130 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences (driving under the influence) and Art. 124 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences (traffic rules violation that led to an accident).
Investigators of Police Department No. 6 of the Mykolaiv District Directorate detained the suspect in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and informed him of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — unlawful seizure of a vehicle.
A decision on a preventive measure is currently being made. For the offense, the man faces up to 5 years of imprisonment.
