Rats near houses: in Mykolaiv people fear that rodents will enter apartments
Residents are sounding the alarm: rats are already under the windows — next they could be in homes
March 31 2026, a resident Contact Center at the Mykolaiv City Council contacted Mykolaiv resident Oksana Honcharova with a complaint about a dangerous situation near an abandoned building at the corner of 3rd Slobidska Street and Marka Kropyvnytskoho Street. According to her, large rats have appeared en masse near residential buildings and are becoming increasingly numerous. People have repeatedly tried to draw attention to the problem, but, the complainant says, there was no response.
The resident emphasizes that the situation is rapidly worsening: rodents are already running near the houses, and there is a risk that in the near future they will begin to enter yards and homes. According to her, this is causing serious concern among residents who are forced to live next to a potential source of unsanitary conditions and infections.
Oksana Honcharova, addressing city services about the situation near the abandoned building on Marka Kropyvnytskoho Street, described the problem of an increasing number of rats and the lack of response to previous reports from residents:
The Contact Center reported that the appeal was registered by the Emergency Response Service less than an hour after it was received. At the same time, residents now expect not only quick registration but also real action from the responsible services, since the problem is already beyond mere household discomfort.
The spread of rodents in residential neighborhoods may indicate a lack of proper control over abandoned properties and the sanitary condition of the areas. In wartime, when the city’s resources are limited, such problems often remain outside the priority list, yet they directly affect the safety and health of residents.
