In the Dominican Republic March 21 in the city of La Romana an Honorary Consulate of Ukraine was opened, headed by Viktoriya Yakimova, formerly known as a nude model.
Yakimova’s appointment sparked an active discussion, primarily because of her past activities and revealing photos on social media.
Responding to criticism, Yakimova emphasized that a personal past should not affect the assessment of her professional work.
A modern self-sufficient woman has the right to pursue herself in her chosen profession, as well as to change the direction of development and grow,
According to her, in the past 2 years in the Dominican Republic field receptions by Ukrainian diplomats have been organized for the first time, allowing Ukrainian citizens to obtain foreign passports, birth certificates and receive consultations without leaving the country.
She also emphasized that the position of honorary consul does not involve state funding, so she covers all expenses herself.
In addition, Yakimova reported a personal loss: her husband, who supported her decision to head the consulate, died shortly before the official opening of the institution.
