In the Kyiv district of the city of Odesa on March 28, 2026, at around 11:00, law enforcement received a report about a man with a weapon. The information was provided by a witness who was driving past the scene.
As police found out, the offender turned out to be a 22-year-old serviceman who was in the city on leave. Near the rented accommodation he fired several shots into the air, reportedly from a starter pistol, and also activated the grenade’s fuse. As a result of the incident, no one was injured. Law enforcement officers promptly detained the man and seized from him a pistol with ammunition and a grenade body, which were sent for examination. Special forces, fighters of the KORD unit, explosive technicians, forensic experts and an investigative-operational group were working at the scene.
A criminal proceeding has been opened in connection with the incident under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — hooliganism. The article’s sanction provides for up to 7 years of imprisonment. It is currently being decided whether to notify the detainee of suspicion, and the motives for his actions are also being established.
