Night arson in central Mykolaiv: bank almost completely destroyed by fire
He wanted to "settle the matter" his own way, and now he may end up with a prison cell instead of freedom
In Mykolaiv a local resident was notified on April 13, 2026 of suspicion in a case concerning the arson of a bank branch. According to investigators, this concerns the intentional destruction of property by arson, i.e. Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to law enforcement, late in the evening of April 11, 2026 the 22-year-old man intended to destroy the premises of one of the branches of AT “Accent-Bank” on Central Avenue. For this purpose, investigators say, he prepared in advance: he bought a jerry can of gasoline at a gas station, went to the bank building, poured a flammable substance over the entrance door and part of the façade, and then set everything on fire with a lighter. As a result of the fire, the entrance door of the financial institution was completely destroyed. At the same time, thanks to the prompt response of law enforcement and rescuers, the flame did not spread to the entire building, so larger consequences were avoided.
Media, citing law enforcement, report that the suspect was identified during operational-search activities, in particular with the help of cameras of the “Safe City” system. His mobile phone and other items were seized and sent for examination.
It is currently being decided whether to impose a preventive measure on him in the form of pre-trial detention. The sanction of the charged article provides for punishment of from 3 to 10 years of imprisonment. Law enforcement is also clarifying the motives for the arson and checking whether other persons were involved in this incident.
