A phone was snatched right out of someone's hands on a trolleybus: Mykolaiv is becoming dangerous even on public transport
In broad daylight on a trolleybus: in Mykolaiv a robber snatched a phone and fled — he was found a few hours later
In Mykolaiv police detained a 26-year-old man suspected of a brazen robbery right inside a trolleybus. The incident occurred on 10 April 2026 at about 9:30 — according to witnesses, the assailant snatched a mobile phone from a passenger’s hands and ran out of the trolleybus at one of the stops. The victim was a 52-year-old man.
After a call to the emergency line 102, officers immediately arrived at the scene. The investigative-operational team and detectives questioned witnesses and the victim, after which they began searching for the attacker. Thanks to the suspect’s description and criminal analysis work, his identity was established within a few hours and he was detained on one of the city’s streets.
It turned out the stolen phone had already been sold. Law enforcement quickly located the device and seized it from the new owner — after the investigative actions are completed it will be returned to the lawful owner.
Investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — robbery committed under martial law. He faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment. The court will select a preventive measure shortly.
The police are currently checking the suspect’s involvement in other similar crimes in the city. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
