'Criminal genius' from Korabelnyi: climbed into someone else's house through a window to earn 20 hryvnias
The case was heard in court under a simplified procedure
Recently, in the Korabelnyi District Court of the city of Mykolaiv, a repeatedly convicted local resident Serhii Pakh — who has a secondary technical education, is unmarried, and is not officially employed — once again found himself on the defendants’ bench.
The incident occurred sometime between November 15 and 30, 2025 (a more precise court date could not be established). Serhii Pakh decided that working was not for him, while someone else’s unattended window was a real “social elevator”. He climbed over a metal chain-link fence (a fence), illegally entered the victim Svitlana‘s house through an open window and began searching for valuables with the intent to steal them.
However, finding nothing valuable that matched his criminal intentions, Pakh went to the yard of the said property. There he saw several small pieces of metal products (angle irons, rebar), which he stole and sold to another person for 20 hryvnias.
The case was considered under a simplified procedure because the defendant immediately confessed and asked not to be put behind bars.
Judge Tetyana Holovina issued a verdict:
- Find the thief guilty of unlawfully entering a dwelling.
- Impose a punishment in the form of 1 year of restriction of liberty“.
- Suspend the imposed sentence with probation, setting a probation period of 1 year.
The convicted person is now obliged to visit the probation authority and report there “about every move” (changes of residence, work, or study).
