There is no cure, but there is protection: rabies vaccine is available at medical facilities in the Mykolaiv region
The rabies situation is unfavorable: residents are urged to be cautious
In Mykolaiv Oblast the epidemic situation regarding rabies remains unfavorable. This is reported by Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, urging residents not to ignore the risks and to know how to act in case of an animal bite. Medical professionals emphasize that rabies is a deadly viral infection transmitted from animals to humans, most often through bites. Both wild and stray — and even domestic — animals pose a particular threat. In some cases infection is possible even through the saliva of an infected animal getting into an open wound or onto a mucous membrane.
Experts stress: there is no effective treatment for rabies, and the only way to save a life is timely vaccination after contact with an animal.
At the same time, in medical institutions of Mykolaiv and the region that provide anti-rabies care, vaccine and immunoglobulin are available in sufficient quantities. This means that in the event of a bite or suspected infection people can immediately receive the necessary vaccination.
Doctors urge not to delay: with any bite or scratch, even from a domestic animal, you should immediately seek medical attention. Residents of the region are also advised to avoid contact with wild and stray animals and to regularly vaccinate their pets. Timely medical attention, vaccination, and caution remain the only effective ways to protect against this deadly disease.
