Easter - under threat? Police are preparing for provocations and intensifying checks
Celebrations under watch: law enforcement will inspect and patrol near churches
As reported on April 9 2026 by the Communications Department of the Mykolaiv Oblast Police, during the celebration of Easter on April 12 law enforcement officers will be on heightened alert due to risks related to martial law. Police, together with servicemembers and representatives of territorial community volunteer formations, will patrol places of mass gatherings — primarily near churches and religious buildings, as well as adjacent areas and roads. Patrol units will be positioned as close as possible to places of worship to respond quickly to possible incidents.
For the holiday period the number of foot and vehicle patrols has been increased, and additional investigative-operational teams have been mobilized for duty. Reserves have also been formed from fighters of special purpose units, tactical-operational response units, the explosive ordnance disposal service, and canine handlers.
Law enforcement warns that in public places selective superficial checks of citizens may be conducted — this is necessary to prevent sabotage and provocations.
At the same time the curfew on the night of April 11 to 12 is not canceled and will be in effect from 00:00 to 05:00. During this period being on the streets and in public places is prohibited.
The police urge residents of the oblast to follow safety measures:
- do not come to churches with large bags and backpacks
- shorten the time spent at services
- do not ignore air raid sirens
- comply with martial law restrictions
- be understanding of the checks
In case of an air raid alert it is necessary to immediately go to a shelter and remain there until the all-clear.
Citizens are also asked to be vigilant: in case suspicious objects or persons are discovered — immediately report to the police.
Law enforcement emphasizes that even on holidays the threat of Russian attacks remains real, so all measures are aimed at protecting people.
