In Poltava, a local resident was sentenced to 8 years in prison for attacking an employee of the enterprise «Poltavateploenergo», who in the morning of August 18, 2025 was delivering notices about overdue heating payments.

As follows from the materials of the Unified State Register of Court Decisions, the incident took place in the entrance of an apartment building, where the company employee had come with notices for debtors.

The man, who had a significant debt for utility services, attacked the woman: he threw a bag over her head, wrapped a rope around her neck and began to strangle her. He then punched her and tried to shove the notice into her mouth, but the neighbor’s shouts prevented further attack.

The victim was diagnosed with a broken jaw, traumatic brain injury, concussion and multiple hematomas. Experts classified these injuries as of moderate severity, but emphasized that the method of attack posed a real threat to life.

The court found the defendant guilty of attempted intentional murder under part 3 of Art. 15, part 1 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to long-term imprisonment.

In addition, he was ordered to pay over 20 thousand hryvnias in expenses for the victim’s treatment and over 11 thousand hryvnias for conducting expert examinations.
