24-year-old online fortune-teller detained: 300,000 UAH for rituals to bring back an ex
She has been notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine; she faces up to five years' imprisonment
In Bukovina, law enforcement officers detained an online fortune-teller who, according to the Chernivtsi regional police, extorted nearly 300 thousand hryvnias from a local resident by promising help in restoring a relationship with her ex-boyfriend.
The investigation found that the 24-year-old woman created a page on one of the social networks and advertised there “magical” services: fortune-telling, Tarot card spreads, and alleged “extrasensory” rituals.
In her ads she claimed to be able to improve clients’ personal lives and to return “lost love”.
One of these offers was answered by a Bukovina resident who asked for help in restoring a relationship with her ex-boyfriend. The suspect assured her that regular “rituals” were needed, which had to be paid for on an ongoing basis.
The victim trusted these promises and for several months transferred funds to the fortune-teller’s bank card, but the expected reconciliation did not occur, and later the “assistant” stopped responding. The total amount of losses amounted to nearly 300 thousand hryvnias.
The suspect was notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and according to the article’s sanction she faces punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 5 years.
