An attempt to "pull" a brother away from the Territorial Recruitment Center ended in murder: what is known about the tragedy in Lviv
A document check ended in tragedy: a knife became the "argument" in a dispute
In Lviv on April 2, 2026, during a check of military registration documents a fatal attack occurred on a serviceman of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support. This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation, which is currently conducting an investigation.
According to the investigation, the incident took place on Paton Street near a funeral services shop. Employees of the TRSSC, together with police officers, stopped a man to check his documents. At that moment his brother — an employee of the Lviv Customs, who was nearby — intervened. A dispute arose between the parties, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. During the scuffle the customs officer, attempting to obstruct the actions of law enforcement, drew a knife and inflicted several blows on the serviceman, including to the neck area. The injuries proved to be incompatible with life — despite medics’ efforts to save the man, he died in the ambulance.
The attacker was detained on the spot. He has been notified of suspicion under para. 8, part 2, art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional murder of a person in connection with the performance of their official duties. The article’s sanction provides for a punishment of 10 to 15 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
Investigators are currently establishing all the circumstances of the incident and the motives for the crime. A motion has been filed with the court to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention.
