Drunk father and dead child: a horrific tragedy occurred in the Mykolaiv region

In the Mykolaiv region law enforcement officers are investigating the death of a young child that occurred on April 1, 2026 in the village of Romanova Balka Myhiyivska community. According to the investigation, the 3-year-old boy was in the house without adult supervision, while his 33-year-old father was in the yard in a state of severe alcohol intoxication.

The child was found lifeless. According to preliminary conclusions, the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. The man’s body showed 2.15 per mille of alcohol. Law enforcement detained the father; he has been notified of suspicion. The court ordered pretrial detention. For the alleged offense the man faces up to 8 years imprisonment.

The investigation is ongoing; law enforcement is establishing all the circumstances of the tragedy.
