Knife to the neck and escape: a TCC employee was killed in Lviv; the attacker turned out to be a customs officer

In Lviv during the day on April 2 2026, while performing his official duties, a 52-year-old serviceman of the Halytsko-Frankivsk ORTCK and SP was killed. According to the investigation, the attack occurred in the Zaliznychnyi district of the city while carrying out measures to alert the population about mobilization and to check military registration documents. A man inflicted a stab wound to the soldier’s neck and fled. The victim was taken to hospital with a critical carotid artery injury, but could not be saved.

The police clarified that the report to the emergency line 102 was received at about 14:15, and the attack itself took place on Paton Street. A criminal case was opened under item 8 of part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional murder of a person in connection with the performance of their official duties. The article’s sanction provides for 10 to 15 years imprisonment or life imprisonment.

After the attack, a police special operation was carried out in the city. Law enforcement said they promptly established the suspect’s whereabouts and detained a Lviv resident born in 1991 in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. According to the police, the suspect is an inspector of the Lviv Customs, and his motives are currently being established. Sources of “RBC-Ukraine” reported that the detained man is named Andriy Trush.

The State Customs Service confirmed that the detainee is an employee of the Lviv Customs and stated its readiness to assist the investigation. At the same time, this is not the first high-profile attack on a TCC representative in the region: a similar fatal incident during document checks was previously recorded in Lviv.

The Ministry of Defense’s position regarding the tragedy in Lviv:

“Today Ukraine stands on the soldiers who, in various regions and in various positions, including non-combat roles, ensure the defense of the state.

Anyone who kills a serviceman — at the front or in the rear — acts against Ukraine. The killer will face inevitable punishment. This is the only acceptable position.

The mobilization system needs changes, and they will be implemented in the near future. But no systemic problem can justify murder.
