A minibus in Mykolaiv struck a 64-year-old woman on a zebra crossing: the driver faces up to three years in prison
A 51-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Volkswagen LT 35; the injured woman was hospitalized, and the police are searching for witnesses
On the morning of Thursday, 2 April 2026, at about 10:30 on Kosmonavtiv Street in Mykolaiv, a Volkswagen LT 35 van driven by a 51-year-old driver struck a 64-year-old woman who was crossing the road at an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing; the injured woman was hospitalized.
According to preliminary information, the pedestrian was crossing the carriageway on a “zebra” crossing when the van driver struck her. The woman with injuries was taken from the scene to the hospital, and law enforcement officers are clarifying the circumstances of the incident.
The Mykolaiv Region Police informed about the road traffic accident by publishing the information on their Telegram channel.
Investigators of the investigative department of the regional chief directorate qualified the event under the elements of a criminal offense provided for in Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of this article provides for a penalty of up to 3 years’ restriction of liberty with an additional deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for the same term.
Law enforcement officers appealed to possible witnesses of the accident asking them to assist the investigation and provided contacts for communication:
“The Department for the Investigation of Crimes in the Field of Transport of the investigative department asks citizens who possess any information about the circumstances of the road traffic accident to contact the following phone numbers: 063 785 04 20 or 102.”
