One drone — and dozens of possible victims: Ukrainians warned about a deadly threat on trains
If you're on a train — be ready to run: what's changed during air-raid alerts
Advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, military expert Serhiy Beskrestnov with callsign “Flash”, reported a new danger to civilians during attacks by Russian drones. According to him, train cars with people can become a target, and in the event of a direct hit the consequences will be catastrophic. He also noted that due to a change in the enemy’s tactics being near trains during an alert poses a serious threat, so citizens should follow clear safety rules.
“If a Shahed attacks a car with people, it will be a mass grave. You must move at least 100 meters away from the train”, – explained Serhiy Beskrestnov, commenting on the risks of drone attacks on rail transport and passengers’ behavior during an alert.
He also added that currently the dispatching services of Ukrzaliznytsia have received full access to the air situation. This allows them to promptly make decisions regarding the evacuation of passengers in case of a real threat to the train.
According to him, in cases of increased danger people may be removed from carriages to minimize risks during possible strikes. This approach is already being implemented to improve passenger safety in wartime. In fact, this means a change in standard notions of safety during travel: a train is no longer a guaranteed safe place during an air raid. On the contrary, in certain situations it can become a target, and a quick reaction by passengers can save lives.
Residents are urged to pay close attention to conductors’ and dispatchers’ announcements, not to ignore alerts, and to leave the train immediately if ordered to do so.
