President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with the publication Axios that the team of US President Donald Trump is considering ending the war through possible territorial concessions by Ukraine. He voiced this position after talks between the Ukrainian delegation and American representatives in Miami, which yielded no results.
According to the head of state, the American side seeks to end the war but sees only one scenario — the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from their own territories. Zelensky emphasized that such an approach raises serious concerns, as it endangers Ukraine’s security and does not take into account that Russia is the aggressor.
“I am convinced that President Trump and his team want to put an end to the war. My concern is that they see only one way to do it. They see no other way except the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from our territory. But why should we pay for that?” — said Volodymyr Zelensky about the US position and the risks for the country:
The president also stressed that after the de-escalation in relations between the US and Iran pressure on Ukraine may increase. This refers to attempts to force Kyiv to agree to territorial compromises in order to end the war with Russia.
At the same time, the Ukrainian side emphasizes that such scenarios are unacceptable, as they undermine sovereignty and may create new risks for the state in the future.
