Conflict in Mykolaiv region: 23-year-old fired an assault rifle at a fellow villager's house
The case is being investigated as an attempted murder; a weapon and 60 rounds were discovered outside the village
Police detained a resident of the village of Shcherbani in Voznesensk district, aged 23 years, on suspicion of attempted murder: the man opened fire with an automatic weapon at a local resident’s house and after the incident drove away from the scene by car. The circumstances of the case were reported by the Mykolaiv Oblast police.
According to the investigation, on the night of March 26, 2026, the suspect fired at least 15 shots from an automatic weapon at the home of a local resident with whom he had a conflict. After the shooting the perpetrator got into a car and disappeared.
During subsequent investigative actions, police inspected the detainee’s vehicle and seized 4 shell casings from it. The physical evidence was properly packaged and attached to the case materials. Separately, law enforcement officers found outside the populated area an automatic weapon and 4 magazines loaded with 60 rounds, which, according to preliminary data, the man threw away during his escape.
All seized items have been sent for expert examinations to determine their involvement in the crime indicated.
The suspect has been notified of suspicion of attempted intentional murder (Part 2 of Art. 15, Part 1 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanction of the charged article provides for punishment of up to 15 years of imprisonment.
The court chose pretrial detention as the preventive measure for the suspect (for the duration of the investigation).
