Alert on the road: Ukrainian Railways changes the rules — what passengers should do now
The reason is increased threats to railway infrastructure
Ukrzaliznytsia on March 24, 2026 published guidance for passengers on updated safety rules during travel. The reason is the heightened threats to railway infrastructure, as the enemy is increasingly attempting to target this mode of transport.
The company emphasizes: the situation is monitored around the clock, with dozens of specialists tracking possible risks for each service 24/7. At the same time, passengers should be prepared for emergency situations, including evacuation in case of danger near the route.
After a heightened danger signal, passengers are advised to prepare immediately: dress, keep documents and phone close at hand, remain in place and await the conductor’s instructions. If assistance is needed when exiting the carriage — this should be reported in advance.
In the event of an evacuation after the train stops, it is important not to cause panic: quickly leave the carriage through the nearest exit, leaving large items behind. You should also help those who need it and be careful — do not jump and do not linger on the tracks.
After leaving the carriage, move to a safe distance or to shelter, do not gather near the train, keep the conductor in sight and follow all instructions precisely. In case of nearby explosions — lie face down on the ground and cover your head.
Returning to the carriage is possible only after an official signal that the danger has ended. If you need to cross the tracks — watch carefully for train movements.
Passengers with children are advised to remain calm, support them and take necessary items — toys or snacks. In cool weather it is permitted to take blankets from the carriages.
Ukrzaliznytsia stresses that all these rules are aimed at one thing — preserving the lives and health of passengers even in the most difficult conditions.
