"Window of Life" has opened again: a newborn was left at a hospital in Mykolaiv

In Mykolaiv, at City Children’s Hospital No. 2, an infant was left in the “Window of Life”. This was reported on 24 March 2026 by the Health Department of the Mykolaiv City Council.

The Health Department commented on the situation:

“The most important thing is — the baby is safe now. In a critical moment a path was chosen that allowed the child to immediately receive help, warmth and the care of medical staff. We do not know the whole story and do not claim to judge it. Sometimes life puts a person before a choice that is difficult to understand from the outside. But the main thing is that the child is alive and has a chance for the future”.

The statement also reminded that the “Window of Life” exists precisely for such crisis cases, when a person sees no other way out but wants to preserve the child’s life. In Mykolaiv there are five such places at medical facilities where a newborn can be left anonymously, knowing that doctors will immediately take care of them. If within two months the parents change their decision, and the child has not yet been adopted, they can be returned.
