Armed attacks on Mykolaiv residents: law enforcement detained criminal brothers from Odesa
Planned like in the movies — ended up in jail like in real life: robber brothers were arrested years later
Law enforcement officers detained two biological brothers aged 28 and 33 years, who are suspected of a series of armed robberies against residents of Mykolaiv. The Mykolaiv Oblast police report this on March 24 2026. The crimes were marked by particular brutality — the perpetrators acted with weapons, beat people and tied up whole families.
The first attack took place in December 2017. Then the suspects broke into the house of a local entrepreneur by climbing over the fence. They brutally beat the owner, his wife and their 17-year-old son, after which they tied everyone up with ropes. The perpetrators took more than 800,000 UAH and jewelry worth about 700,000 UAH.
The second, even more high-profile crime occurred on the night of March 10 2020 at a house on Levanevtsi Street. It concerns the attack on the then head of the material and technical support department of SE “Zorya”-“Mashproekt” Valeriy Podymaka.
The perpetrators reached the second floor of the house using a ladder, broke into the residence and began to beat the owner. During the attack they opened fire and seriously wounded his wife — Inna, hitting her in the abdomen and a limb. The house also sheltered an underage son and a mother-in-law — the woman was beaten, and the boy managed to hide.
After overpowering the victims the attackers tied them up and demanded money. According to various reports, they managed to seize funds and escape. During the escape they may also have taken cash, including dollars.
The investigation established that the crimes were carefully planned: the suspects surveyed the areas in advance, used balaclavas, gloves, a ladder, ropes and firearms. For concealment they changed vehicles and quickly left the crime scenes. During the investigation law enforcement carried out dozens of examinations — from ballistic to molecular-genetic — and also analyzed hundreds of hours of video from the “Safe City” system. This made it possible to obtain evidence of the brothers’ involvement in the attacks.
The arrest took place in 2026 — one suspect was detained in Odesa, the other — in the town of Khust in Zakarpattia.
During searches, phones, bank cards, equipment, GPS trackers, handwritten notes and other evidence were seized.
The suspects are charged with Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as well as an attempt at intentional murder — Part 1 of Article 15, item 6 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The court has already imposed a preventive measure — detention in custody.
The robbers face up to 15 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The investigation continues — law enforcement are checking the detainees’ involvement in other similar crimes across the country.
