Danger in the Korablenyi District: attacks by stray dogs on people are becoming more frequent
A city out of control: aggressive dogs — a threat that is being ignored
In the Korabelnyi district of the city of Mykolaiv, another incident involving a stray dog occurred, local resident Lyudmyla reported this on 21 March 2026 in the Telegram channel Korabeliv.Info.
According to the resident, on Rybna Street a red mongrel dog attacked her from behind, known in the yard by the name “Lyalya”. The woman notes that she did not interact with the animal, she was simply walking while looking at her phone, but the dog ran up and bit her leg a little above the calf. After the attack the victim had to be taken to the hospital for rabies vaccination:
…Today I was walking past that street alone, looking at my phone, not touching her at all, but that same red dog “Lyalya” ran up behind me and latched onto my leg, a little above the calf. We are going to the hospital to get a rabies shot. Will we continue to pity stray aggressive dogs?” — wrote Lyudmyla.
Local residents report that this dog has lived in the yard for a long time, and some people feed it, which may lead it to consider the territory “its own” and react aggressively to outsiders.
The incident sparked a lively discussion among neighborhood residents about safety on the streets.
“Judging by the number of attacks on people, this is becoming some kind of epidemic. Now people will rush in and start saying that you provoked the dog. And honestly, this is madness — living in a city and not feeling safe: first Shaheds, now dogs,” — noted Viktoria.
“You simply cannot pass through this yard on Rybna as an adult, and for children it’s even worse,” — complained Natalia.
“If you feel sorry for this dog, then take it home. In fact, feeding should be done on neutral ground, not in a way that makes the dog consider the whole yard its own and defend it. If this is the yard Rybna, 1/2, then there is constantly such a problem — locals feed and raise the dogs incorrectly,” — added another woman.
Other residents raise questions about the responsibility of the authorities and the lack of a systematic approach to the problem of stray animals.
“There are problems with dogs everywhere. The authorities adopt measures for pet dogs — microchipping, passports, fines, but they do not think about yard dogs. First you need to build shelters so there is a place to keep them, and then there will be order. Not catch, sterilize and return. In Europe or America there are no homeless animals; if we want to be like Europe — we must do things properly,” — wrote Vladyslav.
“For some reason everyone complains about pet dogs without muzzles, even if they are on a leash and well-behaved. But at the same time they feed homeless aggressive dogs that then defend their territory and attack everyone. And do you consider that normal? It is better to build shelters and remove them from the streets, because poison could also be eaten by domestic animals…”, — replied Lyudmyla.
Some users express a tougher stance regarding the presence of stray animals in the city:
“There is a category of people called ‘zooshiza’. They ostentatiously support stray animals, but they do not live with them on the street. The city is for people, not for dogs, and if the animals pose a threat — it should be eliminated in accordance with the law,” — commented a user with the nickname CKS.
Many Mykolaiv residents believe the problem is already taking on the scale of a dangerous trend, as similar cases occur increasingly often. Some commentators emphasize that there is no systematic work by the city authorities on stray animals — in particular, there are not enough shelters, and the practice of sterilization with return does not solve the safety problem.
