The enemy strikes the railway: details of the tragic night
In the morning of 23 March 2026 the press service of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” reported a difficult night for the railway infrastructure due to massive drone strikes across the country.
According to the company, the enemy once again attacked rolling stock on the Prydniprovska Railway – this time a suburban train locomotive was hit. Thanks to the timely evacuation of passengers and the locomotive crew, there were no casualties.
At the same time, the night also brought tragic consequences. On the Odesa Railway, during a train stop and passenger evacuation the conductor was fatally injured by an oncoming train, which was also heading to its evacuation stop. In addition, one of the passengers sustained injuries of moderate severity. In “Ukrzaliznytsia” they reported that a thorough investigation of the accident is underway and specialists are already working on site.
The JSC also emphasized that, together with the Defense Forces, they have intensified monitoring of all threats and declare evacuations in cases when enemy UAVs or other means of attack are detected near the route of a particular train. Training and practical exercises with train crews are ongoing, and the analysis of each case is intended to strengthen safety protocols.
