11 medals for the Mykolaiv region: wrestlers with hearing impairments proudly represented the region at the Greco-Roman wrestling championship
Mykolaiv region won 4 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals at the championship in Mukachevo
From 17 to 20 March 2026, in the city of Mukachevo, the Ukrainian championship in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling among cadets and juniors with hearing impairments took place. Representatives of Mykolaiv Oblast performed with distinction at the national level and brought home 11 medals – 4 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze. This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration.
In freestyle wrestling, athletes from the Mykolaiv region won five awards. The winners were Bezushko Artem in the 65 kg weight category among cadets and Popiuk Mykola in the 79 kg class among juniors. Silver medals were won by Ivanov Volodymyr (79 kg, juniors) and Komarnytskyi Artem (97 kg, juniors), and bronze by Berezhnyi Vasyl in the 97 kg category among juniors.
In Greco-Roman wrestling, Mykolaiv athletes added six more medals to the tally. Gold was won by Bezushko Artem (65 kg, cadets) and Ivanov Volodymyr (79 kg, juniors). Silver medalists were Yuvchenko Dmytro (72 kg, juniors) and Berezhnyi Vasyl (97 kg, juniors). Bronze medals were won by Popiuk Mykola (79 kg, juniors) and Komarnytskyi Artem (97 kg, juniors).
This result has become further proof that sport in the Mykolaiv region is developing even in difficult wartime conditions, and our athletes demonstrate not only technique and endurance but also real strength of character. The achievements of athletes with hearing impairments are also an important signal that accessibility should not be a slogan in officials’ reports, but a real system of opportunities for children and young people.
The success of Mykolaiv wrestlers at the Ukrainian championship is not just about medals. It is a story about equal opportunities, persistent work, strong coaches, and children who prove: limitations exist primarily in the minds of those who for years underfunded and underestimated adaptive sport.
