In Kyiv, the appellate court upheld the position of the juvenile prosecutors of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office and strengthened the sentence of a 35-year-old man who committed crimes against children in educational institutions in the Podilskyi district. This was reported on March 19, 2026 on his Telegram channel by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Ruslan Kravchenko.
The investigation established that during a single day the man entered school restrooms twice, where pupils of the first and second grades were present. In the gymnasium his actions toward a 6-year-old boy, where the offender exposed himself in front of the child, were classified as committing indecent acts against a minor.
That same day, in another educational institution he entered a stall where an 8-year-old pupil was present and committed actions that were classified as a completed attempt to rape.
The court of first instance treated both episodes as indecent acts against minors and imposed a sentence of 6 years and 6 months of imprisonment. Prosecutors appealed this decision, insisting on a harsher qualification of the defendant’s actions, and filed an appeal.
The decision was changed after the case review. The man was found guilty of a completed attempt to rape a minor and of committing indecent acts against a minor.
As a result of the review he was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, and was also prohibited from holding positions related to working with children and from engaging in activities concerning their upbringing, care, or organization of leisure for a period of 3 years. The convicted man is currently in custody.
REFERENCE: A completed attempt to rape is a situation in which a person has performed all planned actions to commit a sexual act against the will of another person (threats, violence, use of force), considering them sufficient, but the rape did not occur for reasons beyond their control (for example, intervention by third parties, resistance by the victim).
