Ate candies without permission — ended up in the hospital: father brutally beat his 10-year-old son
A child was nearly beaten to death at home over a few candies
A resident of Kremenchuk district, in the Poltava region was notified 19 March 2026 of suspicion of intentional grievous bodily harm, dangerous to life at the time of infliction, under part 1 of Art. 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. According to the investigation, the man beat his underage son because he ate sweets without adults’ permission. The incident occurred in the evening of 2 March 2026 at the family’s place of residence.
According to preliminary data, the father inflicted numerous blows with his hands and feet to the head and body of his 10-year-old son. When the child lost consciousness, he called the medics. The doctors who arrived reported the beating to law enforcement. Currently the boy with serious bodily injuries is in the hospital.
The circumstances of the case were described by the head of the Hlobyne District Prosecutor’s Office Yuliia Rebrik, commenting on the reason why the adult raised his hand against the child.
“On the day of the beating the boy ate candies without the adults’ permission. But such behavior should in no way be a reason for violence against a child. We will establish all the circumstances of the crime during the pre-trial investigation. At the same time, the guardianship and care authorities have already applied to the court with a suit to deprive the couple of parental rights,” – said Yuliia Rebrik.
Law enforcement officials notified the man of suspicion, and the court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of remand in custody. The pre-trial investigation in this proceeding is being carried out by investigators of VP No.1 of the Kremenchuk RUP of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Poltava region under the procedural supervision of juvenile prosecutors.
Reminder: according to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until their guilt is proven in court.
