Investigating judge of the Central District Court of Mykolaiv, Volodymyr Liashchenko reviewed a petition to choose a preventive measure for a 46-year-old resident of one of the villages of Kherson Oblast who is suspected of committing criminal offenses.

The charges relate to Part 1 of Article 110, Parts 2 and 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — encroachment on territorial integrity and justification of armed aggression against Ukraine. According to the investigation, the woman sent letters to state authorities, in particular to the Office of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kherson Oblast, in which she claimed that the entire oblast is part of the Russian Federation, referring to the “constitution” of the aggressor country. She also expressed the belief that the region would be permanently occupied. In addition, the suspect stated the necessity of Ukraine losing state sovereignty and joining the Russian Federation as a “federal subject”. In her appeals she justified the war, repeating narratives of Russian propaganda and shifting responsibility onto the Ukrainian authorities.

During the proceedings the court also examined testimony according to which the woman held pro-Russian views: during the occupation she was among the first to receive a Russian Federation passport, supported the full-scale invasion, and after the territory was liberated called units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “occupiers”.

The prosecutor at the court hearing supported the request for detention. At the same time, the suspect together with her defense counsel asked to choose a milder preventive measure — house arrest. The court’s decision was announced by the investigating judge Volodymyr Liashchenko as a result of the case review: to apply to the suspect the preventive measure of detention, without setting the amount of bail. The pre-trial investigation continues.
