Kim assessed the threat of KABs to Mykolaiv and explained which weapons the Russian Federation uses to reach the city

Long-range experimental KABs are reaching Mykolaiv, but they are used infrequently; an official outlined the current risks and means of striking the enemy

Head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration Vitaliy Kim, in a conversation with «Ukrinform», said that experimental long-range Russian aerial bombs of the KAB type reach Mykolaiv, although the enemy uses them rarely; at the same time the adversary bypasses air defense using Starlink and mobile communications, which is why UAVs increasingly have to be shot down directly over Mykolaiv.

Kim explained that the Russians are testing “long” KABs, but their accuracy leaves much to be desired, so this weapon has not become widespread in this direction.

“Long-range, so-called long KABs reach us, but this is experimental weaponry and it is not accurate. The Russians understand its low effectiveness,” Kim said.

According to the head of the region, the situation with UAVs is similar to what is observed in Odesa: the occupiers use Starlink mesh systems or Ukrainian SIM cards to bypass multi-layer defenses, so instead of interceptions on approach, UAVs are increasingly being destroyed within the urban area.

“In addition, the enemy deliberately attacks civilian objects with drones to make people anxious and afraid,– Kim explained.”

The head of the RSA also announced a separate package of measures to counter FPV drones in the communities of the coastal and frontline belt — this concerns the Ochakiv, Kutsurub and Halytsynivka territorial communities.

2–5 kg — such drones are difficult to shoot down, and they target civilian objects such as gas stations or ambulances.

“As for fiber optic, it is not used on a large scale. More worrying are ‘Molniya’ and other cheap UAVs made of cardboard, plywood and plastic, which, although they carry only 2–5 kg of explosives, are hard to shoot down. They choose targets like a gas station or an ambulance,– concluded the head of the RSA.”
