Fire rages: more than a hectare of land burned in Mykolaiv region over the past day
The causes of the fires are currently being determined
As reported on March 19, 2026 by the State Emergency Service (SES), during the 24-hour period of March 18 wildfires on open terrain were again recorded in the Mykolaiv region. Rescuers responded six times to extinguish fires in reed beds and dry grass. Fire outbreaks occurred on the territory of the Mishkovo-Pohorilivska and Kostiantynivska territorial communities of Mykolaiv district, as well as in the cities of Voznesensk, Pervomaisk and Mykolaiv.
The total area burned in the region over the past 24 hours exceeded 1 hectare.
As an example – a case in Mykolaiv, where firefighters extinguished a dry grass fire covering about 250 sq. m on Architect Starov Street.
All fires were extinguished promptly. The operation involved 24 rescuers and 6 units of State Emergency Service equipment. The local fire protection unit “Huriivka” also assisted.
The causes of the fires are currently being determined. The SES once again appeals to citizens to act responsibly, because even a single carelessly thrown match or an intentional ignition can lead to large-scale consequences, especially in windy weather.
“Dear citizens, we urge you to be sensible! Every match thrown into dry grass, every deliberately set fire to reeds or rubbish can become the cause of a great disaster that is very difficult to stop, especially in windy conditions. Preserve our shared air, our home and the lives of those around you. See a small fire? Try to extinguish it yourself with available means. Is the fire gaining momentum? Call the Rescue Service at 101 and provide the exact address!”, – appealed the State Emergency Service to the region’s residents.
